June/Mammoth Loop, Couch to Couch
The truck broke down in Bishop on a Thursday. The trail fest was Saturday in Mammoth. Forty miles between the two. The logical conclusion, once accepted, made the planning simple.
I left at 4 AM with a pack loaded for two nights, though I intended to push through. The route follows the base of the White Mountains north before cutting west on the Wheeler Crest trail.
Arrived at the festival at noon on Saturday, fourteen hours after leaving the truck. The truck got towed home three days later.
